My old new chair.

Here is my little chair. I am thinking it might just be a slipper chair. Anywho, I bought it about 3 years ago just as it sits. I draped fabric over the edge and thought K it's done! Well once my bedroom started it's makeover....so did the chair.

I sanded then decided not to take all the veneer off. I then painted it white. Looked at it a while..........wanted more dimension. I did my "old" look. Steel wool and dark walnut stain. Happy with the finish!

Next came the decision of the fabric. I had more of the check and the RL fabric. I did not choose either one!

Now that was a surprise even to me!

I had my new Silhouette DS machine. I am not very proficient as yet. I did make the Laurel Wreath with the drawing tools. I was so pleased with the top back....then another decision to be made. The dreaded bottom! I just went with the linen plain. I figured I could always add a stencil if I wanted.

I will say I am very proud of how the chair and the fabric turned out.

Here it sits in its new home.

This is a small side table. Very BoRiNg!! This is the finished jazzy side table.

My maiden name is Jones and my Father was born in 1905.

I wish the pictures were better. I know we all have heard that! But really in my case it is true! :-) After seeing Donna's splendid table, I knew I wanted to try one of my own. I wanted an old crackled finished. This is where the picture is lacking.

I am pleased with my first attemp.

I did not want to promise the rest of the wall.......well until the rest of the wall was ready!

I found another (hard to believe) old wooden door. I have been collecting letters............all types sizes and shapes. I tried to sort in old lunch trays. It sorta worked!

You can also see the clock faces. I put those on canvas and old newspaper.

I thought "smiles" was too bright. The bottom was aged. I was already likin' it better.Notice the "L" it is an upside down #7.

Now here is the big reveal! The big H was one of those from Joanns. I tin foiled the cardboard to add more metal look on the wall. I got the idea from this blog. Check her out http://missmustardseed.blogspot.com/

The blue shelf has typeset numbers.

Well bloggers it has been a while. It has taken me a while to get back into the blogging world! Now down to business. I have been wanting to build (well not really build) BUT

I really wanted the PB clock……so Here is my version.

I really wanted the PB clock……so Here is my version. I started with boards salvaged from the curbside. They were just waiting to be loved and I was really to show the love.

Love the gray/green patina. Next we/ HB

glued 5 boards together. I got out the chalk, string,

and nail. Made the circle. Then the decision came to use Roman numerals or old world looking numbers.

As you can see....Roman won out!

I had to make sure all my numbers would fit.

Isn't she a beauty.

I am not sure if I will make it a "real working " clock. More think time!

Welcome to down under!

Hunter and I went to Sydney for a couple of days. We had a fantastic time. Here are a few of our Australian pictures.Getting ready for the big race.Playing in the snow at Thredbow.Ghee's first spotting of wild kangroos!!

We went on the Monorail and the Sydney aquarium. It was a wonderful wonderful time for me and my grandson!

Ugly frame = easy re-do.

This is just a typical frame easy to find and usually cheap. In its day it was all the rage! The picture were butterflies and clouds! Yikes! The interesting part was the glass. It was the non-glare type. The more expensive glass. You can see the tissue we used under the "art". We ironed the tissuse and wrapped it around the back of the picture. Taped it and popped it in!

Spray with the super duper Krylon. I have used the cheap stuff and it takes twice as much and you have "dead" spray-finger!

The color is rubbed bronze.

We framed the tissue paper from John Derian Company (from the New York trip).

Wish my pictures turned out better. Oh well!

This is the final out come. My HB saved the larger frame from our neighbors trash. That frame also got the spray treatment. This was all done at my friends home. This is my room when I stay with her. There is the wall before the new picture was added.Her house is always perfect Until I arrive!

We started out with the tiniest of showers and then.................the fun began.

Notice the 2 doors in the left of the picture. After my "dream" success door, I thought why not try for another. Yep they are now mine!

Now this is the sign I really wanted! But alas $175. NOT in my price range. :-( The booth was full of wonderful signs. She is on the Porch at Canton. The name of her booth is Artful Disarray Anitques. Kathy had some dandies.The most interesting looking and clever display was Rob Bradford's booth. The use of the black umbrellas was priceless!

Rob also had this wonderful wolfe model. Of course she was not for sale!

Loved this cabinet. Again for over the $100. mark.....I had to pass it up!

Now this booth is our friend Pamela Grayson of The Altered Muse. Below Nancy and Pam are having a big talk.

Boards of curb side finds and more.

Fun new look for my studio with curb side finds! This is how my shutters used to be. I have enjoyed them for just about 10 years. I think it is time for a change.....don't you?

I went to a wonderful spring show in Hico Texas. ( will feature later) They had these fabulous window boxes with birds on the shutters and lines painted on the front of the boxes. You can see on the fence I have painted one of the boxes. The others will follow. Any way back at the "ranch" lol backyard. I was ready for a change. IN walks my super-duper HB. I told him that I was tired of the hearts and stars. His comment SO SOON! hehe
BIG YES! He said O.K. draw me what you want. YEA! Now here comes the free curb side stuff.

There are at least 20 boards that were waiting for a new home too. The color is a wonderful rich green/gray color. After the swallow was drawn....................it was too small and did not cover up the hearts. Plan B. Cover up! I love the color of the boards as I have said!!!! Why not use them? I am so pleased how it all turned out. What do you think?

Last of NYC & more!

We took a day trip to Cold Springs, New York on the train. It is a very sweet town with wonderful quaint houses and shops.

We were close to Wall Street and found Trinity Episcopal. The grounds were beautiful. I enjoy looking at cemeteries and old headstones. Here are a couple.

Some of my last treasures.My helper! I am not sure what this piece was. Sorry the details did not show up better. They are Indian head charms.

Fun Flean' in NYC

I should have taken more photos of the fleas..............But I was excited and buying. I know this is not flean' BUT it is fueln'! This place was so yummy! That brownie/cake/cookie. Was another example why I have to start the dreaded diet!

Now this was more nutritious so it stayed under glass!

Wish I could have taken that sign. Very cute!Oh! on the way we found one of my very favorite online stores. I got to go the bricks and mortar store. Exciting for me maybe not you! hehe............onward

OK this is the http://www.brooklynflea.com/ in a fabulous 1930 bank building. http://www.australianscent.com/ Found this booth on the way to the bathrooms. Naturally I checked it out. When I got home my Country Living magazine was waiting and there was Brooklyn Flea one of the top "out and about" antique markets! I was tickled for sure.

Next up was Hell's kitchen.

I found lots of goodies! Here is a peek.I could not believe that I bought that tool carrier. BUT I love it! The sprinkler heads will be very cute as swimming pool towel holders. Of course I could not pass up a chance at numbers and letters. Old iron faucet "turner oner" things.

Last but not least.....................My pooped compadres.

All in all it was a fun day. I have just a few more pictures. I will wait for another day. No burnout on my blog!

We had a wedding!

I told everyone I had a surprise when I came back from NYC. Our daughter met and married an Australian!
Now keep in mind we are VERY close. She has never even lived in another city much less around the world.

She wanted a cake that looked like it came from Harrods. We had a dear friend who found it!

The wistera was in full bloom! Beautiful and smelled divine.

Our darling hostess! Greg wanted a door shot!

Cousins and friend! The boys had a great time in the yard.

I am so blessed to have such a wonderful circle of friends.

Our daughter and youngest grandson are now living in NSW Australia.

Well one thing about it................new vacation Destination !

Now this celebration took place 3 days before Hubby's 70th birthday party! I was one pooped gal!

Back from the Big Apple!

We had a wonderful week and it was extremely fast paced! This is us in the airplane. We were still high on excitment.

Just like in the movies! We had a good laugh!

Our first glimpse of the concrete jungle. If you have never been to NYC it is an amazing site for sure.

Can you tell we were in one of many arty areas?

I loved this sign. It was smack dab in the middle of the sidewalk.

There is some humor for us "out-of-towners.

Yummy and hot off the presses!My cohorts in crime! My friend's son. He was the perfect host. Never left us two ole dames alone. Whew!Our first of a few markets!

I found some wonderful trade beads.

So many beautiful buildings!

I love the architecture! I was always stopping my friends so I could look up and snap!

We really did have to get serious and

search for food!

We were getting close. I could smell the goods.

It was as darling as it looks! The 1/2 and 1/2 drink was fab! It was half sweet tea and half lemonade. And all delicous.

We then needed another walk.............................hard to believe after our first jaunt. This was all on our first day. St. John the Divine. A beautiful cathedral. I love the angel on the top.

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City is the largest cathedral in the world (St. Peter's Basilica in Rome is larger, but it's not a cathedral). Big week and Weekend!

This has been quite a week! First and formost My HB turned seventy today! We could not have a birthday with out balloons! The fun part was the playing--don't let them touch the ground game! The six year old has lots more energy than the seventy year old. BUT he is blowing and blowing and blowing up the 25 balloons.

Now that is a bright idea!

We decided NOT to put 70 individual candles. You know fire hazard and all!!

We did have a fun afternoon with great food and family! The girls in the family had a ball laughing and taking self pictures!

Happy Easter!

Well Easter is close on our heels. We are grateful indeed! We were fortunate to have our oldest granddaughter and our youngest grandson for egg decorating and dying. We were quite the crew. It is a rare treat for both to be at our house at the same time. The day flew by all too quickly. My hope is for my all blogger friends to have a joyous Easter. You all mean so much to me! I hope each and every one of you knows how I feel.

Wire baskets

Today I will be joining Linda at Coastal Charm. It's a fun place to be!

Wire baskets are one of my downfalls. I have had this wonderful basket for so many years I can't remember what it cost. I found it in Canton,
Texas in the '80's.

This is one large basket I found it at Junk Bonanza. It was under $15.00. It is 27 x 17 x 6 inches!

These 2 baskets just fit in my $5.00 book case.

I think this basket was from a freezer. It was $3.00. It works well at the end of the bed.

Now this is one of my very favorite and hard working vintage dish drain. I love the style and it really is a gem. It was under $7.00.

Well I have more BUT I do not want to bore! You know what your Mother always says about over staying your welcome!

Easy-peasy fun frame holders

Well I am sad that I am out of good Sue junk! It has been lots of fun!! I still want to try the night light thing. I just need a heavy & I mean heavy duty drill!! This has been a fun adventure. Thank you Sue for pulling it all together. I love seeing what everyone has received and made!

Well my last things to use were those metal wick turners and the brass thing-a-jig. As you can see I used an old ruler and shiplap for the stand. I used old bailing wire for the photo holder. All ready had and cheap! We split the ruler for double coverage.

On the brass thing-a-jig I really wanted to make a night light. That is SOME tough metal. So this is what I did.

Message board or a leftover hanger???

This is my next re-purposed item. I had that wire hanger thingy. It really was a garment bag hanger. BUT I saw a message board. The fun was trying to work out my system. The top was a foamcore leftover from another project. I used the wonderful chalkboard spray paint! The bottom was leftover from a cardboard pop case. I sprayed it with adhesive and did burlap overlay. I love the Graphics Fairy site. http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/ That is where I chose the "correct" handwriting picture.

From disaster to DREAM!

Well this is the rest of the story!

Cleaned up and ready for dress up!This is the first vision. Kinda blah!!!This one we looked at for a couple of days. HB & I liked it. Just needed a little more dressing up! The dots did help in the dressing part..........But something was lacking.................

Now we are talking!I am very pleased with the outcome. The measuring stick I think did the trick. We will watch it for a while.....just incase!

Well it has made it on the wall!

I am so tickled with the new look!

The cost of the door was $ 2.00. The TO letters were $1.00 each! The DARE was a little more $25.00. To me they were worth it. The REM! were $2.00. The rest we had. I am working on the other side of the couch wall. Will post when I am happy. Now go on over to

Going to OZ!

Well this is a personal post with out any clever showing and telling! My daughter and grandson left for Australia last night. They will be gone for 10 days. This is the first approximately 24 hour trip for my 6 year old grandson. He is a trooper for sure! Their bags were packed and ready to go………….I can hear Peter, Paul & Mary singing! Well it turned out not so idyllic at check in! Nine pounds overweight (wish they were talking about me) ! That little poundage was going to cost another $150 buckeroos! She looked at me I looked at her and said HRH does not have a carry on. I’ll get my grocery ugly bag from the trunk. Off I went. Came back to her Wii, laptop, shoes, etc on the airport floor. She then started weighing with out those items. She was 9 pounds under. Back to adding more stuff………..taking out ………….adding in! Finally all she had extra was the Wii!

I would have taken pictures…………but as you can well imagine the drama and Mama taking pic’s would have been really really bad! So I have happy shots to show!

Well at this point Hunter was just realy for Ghee to quit taking pictures! They did land in LA. Have not heard from them as yet.
Thanks so indulging me! There will be lots of stories and pictures from Hunter.........I so looking forward too.

Saturday turned into a most splendid day. We started with nutrition Gingerbread men! Yummy to the max! Then we were off for a fleain' good time.

This stall was to rich for us. Wonderful quality goodies.There was lots more fish to fry!This was one of my treasures. To some this looks like a dirty door. To me it will be a wall adorment. That will be a later post.This was a cool old metal swing. No room :-(.

Not sure what this porcelain green thing was. It was just so cool. So it came home with me.This easel also mine. I was not going to purchase BUT taped on the side all yellowed with age was Alice. Fate! Well I am an artist.

Now this is a wonderful built in cabinet. Sad I was to late. Already sold. It really was fabUlous!Great rust for sure!

Look what I found junking!!!!!!!

Today I went to an estate sale. There were some fun items as well as not so fun! Imagine that! If you follow my blog at all you know I cloches! I also like to repurpose items. Well the green thing (not sure what it was) works great for one of my cloches. It was a dollar.

I am not sure what I will do with the lantern. I think I would like to try for a lamp! Who knows at this point. The bucket with the peppers was a great find. I paid $3.00 and it was loaded inside. There was another blue enamal bowl, a pocket recorder (grandson's prize), draftsman ruler. The estate people did not look inside the bucket! Oh also brand new bottle super glue!

HOME GOODS mini tour!

This is my first adventure to HomeGoods! My friend and I decided to take the plunge. We had to plot out the way. Print the directions. Fix our snacks for the road! One more bathroom stop…………then off we went. Now I am into repurposing. I am a quirky collector of junk . I love cloches as anyone who reads my blog knows. Some blogger (wish I could remember who) had a wonderful wire one! I was on the hunt.

We were there as the store opened. First thing my friend found was a leather chair! Now earlier in the week we were at an antique mall........she bought a rocking chair. As she sat and oohed and aahed in the chair, I thought yikes where are we going to put it!!! Well we finally broke away from the chair. That's when I spotted IT! The vase/urn/not sure what it was. But it was on the clearance isle. Yipee! It's the mercury finished it really liked. Well I am sure you are wondering about the "cloche love" and where is it!

Enter the giant flat bottomed vase.

I am fruit nut too!

Here is the end result! Now it is really a twofer 'cause I still have the mercury bottom! YEA!!

I am a lover of quirky things. I really appreciate beautiful houses and all the wonderful elegant items. It is just not me! You will get a small glimpse of what I love. The 2 screen doors make a shelf. Those doors we used in display for a so long they became part of the “family”.

On a trip to my husbands 50th high school reunion we got to go junking. The red shelf is a corbel turned sideways with an antique board on top. The canisters were from my Grandmother. The pool balls in the hand blown glass jar hold our lucky number 13.

I am a collector of old quilts. (big shock). I have 60 of them. These are some of my oldest and personal favorites. The silhouette is of my daughter and grandson. I just love it!! The picture of my Mother looking at her new shoes is my button for my blog. Another big favorite.

This window came out of pub in England. We recued it from the Habitat store. My angel "make a joyful noise unto the Lord" is another favorite.

This shelf is holds some of our favorite hobbies. Collecting sand and shells from around the world. We took a cruise to the South Pacific and daughter gave us bottles to fill with the different sand!Well I hope you have enjoyed the small table top and more of my house. Piano front to sign.

I bought this piano front because I loved the detail. I was not sure what to do once it came home! It leaned in the hall for a while.

I decided to use the same paint I used on last weeks' cabinet. Added a dark glaze for age.

I found this saying and thought it would work.

The wonderful FREE cabinet!

I wish I had taken before pictures! I will try to set the stage. The cabinet was used for a paint/ oil/ catch all in a garage. It was painted a shiny bright turquoise. Now I like turquoise BUT not over the top shiny, I am more of a dull girl. The bread box was my grandmothers. The letters I found in a junk yard. I was so tickled that they spelled FRESH. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Happy Valentines! This was the scene no not a crime scene. A Hunter and Ghee (me) creative homemade Valentines scene!

My six year old precious grandson wanted to home make his cards this year. I showed him several I had gotten off the web. No Ghee we are making our own designs. Oh O.K.

So what are we going to make? Valentine mice. Another Oh O.K. So off we started with serious direction from HRH (Hunter). We had the class list of names. He wrote the names on the "mice". I got to write the names on the homemade envelopes. "Good job Ghee". We had a wonderful time. Making 24 Valentines was quite impressive (to me) for a 6 years old. He was as well as he should be quite proud of himself.

Another Fun not so shiny Silver Sunday

I thought I had given away all my family silver. I happened to look in another cabinet. I found some silver thimbles, my great aunts. One of them is engraved "winnie". The attention to detail of an everyday item is a lost art. Be sure and click to enlarge. Notice the holes in the top of the standing thimble. It was well used for sure!

There is a dog head on the end of the spoon. It is a lapel pin.

Perfume came in the small sterling bottle. The silhouette is a personal lapel pin I made for me. It is my daughter and grandson. The hair brush and button hook are also family heirlooms.
I hope you have enjoyed just a small part of my "not so shiny silver".

The disappearing "grab my button" saga

Well as some of you might have noticed or not. I have been trying to add a grab my button. Well each day I think I did it and guess what ??????????????? NOT!!!!! I love the picture I have with the button.

It's a picture of my Mother in about 1917. That seems to be the best part or so I thought that was working. Well somehow over night she grew??!! So off my "button" went. Now at this point my husband said "I can not believe you are STILL on that computer!" I loudly explained that I was not a quitter! So each night as I give up on the infamous button..............I wonder what tomorrow will bring. I think it's working.

This Sunday I thought I would do a collage of my silver goodies! On the red door is a tussie mussie mercury glass. A Christmas gift! There are more trays with sayings. The Colbalt blue beaded bracelet is one of my creations. The Madonna and Child is the first of my religious series of necklaces. The silver trays hold wonderful to be jewels. On top of the book case there are more mercury glass goodies. Another Christmas present from a dear friend. The silver charm bracelet I found at my local flea market. The "somewhere in time" necklace is just a funky fun jewel. The gumball machine is the other one I received at Christmas/birthday gift. The tray in the center is pewter with faux silver beads and more. Hope you have enjoyed this weeks Silver Sunday.

First I had to have Sugs the cat approval!

I found an amazing amount of silver trays in an out of the way antique mall. I could not believe the haul ! It was a fun day to begin with.............but it ended great!

This is one from the haul. I added Joy.

Two darling little candle holders with my own Valentine's decor.I just love the tarnished champagne holder. The gum ball machine is one of my Christmas gifts.

Well here is the fish tank with silver leaf on the cheap. I combined the real stuff and the cheap stuff. I can't tell. Can you? I like the lights they add just a magical touch. The berries are the ones I used above the mantel. The glitter just adds fun! Like twinkle dust waiting to escape. Now go out and find your curb side deluxe model fish tank and have fun!

The Eiffel Tower was a Christmas prize. The angel is one of my fav's from my sister.

Silver leaf on the cheap.

Since this Silver Sunday I thought I would show what I discovered today. First I had my found /curb side Wonderful fish tank. I did use it at Christmas. (earlier post). But I wanted to silver leaf the ugly brown top.

I started with my silver leaf. Well since it was a straight shot. I thought why not try aluminum foil. Can you tell which side is which?

The only way I think this will work is on simple straight lines. Hope you enjoy my silver leaf on the cheap.

Well I have started trying to get back in the swing of jewelry making. Holidays always have a way of interrupting my creative process. (does not take much!). Anywho here are some new jewels.

Christmas 2009

Now that Christmas day has come and gone. It has been a strange holiday for us in my neck of Texas. This is the first snow on Christmas since 1926! My grandson was really thrilled! I was happy until I figured out the roads were to bad for us to go to Christmas eve service.

Christmas day! Quite the site for us.

Very proud grandson of his FIRST snowman!This is what is left. Sad carrot nose with buttons scattered. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. We do live in a strange climate. The day before it snowed it was in the 70's!

9. After keeping my 5 year old darling grandchild for a week..............I know why we have our children young.

10. I love how the WWW (world wide web)has brought all of us together. I feel close to people I have never met. Even better than pen pals.

I have become obsessed with my jewelry. It is an exciting, fun and inspiring journey. Here are some of my new "jewels".

This necklace is surrounded by turquoise, prayer beads and rhinestones.

This Madonna and Child is one of my favorites. The cobalt blue beads and the fluted metal beads come from Ethiopia and are over 100 years old. The metal beads are prayer beads,

This is another Madonna and Child. I liked the chain I put on this one. It reminds me of a rosary.

This one is an angel. I am having a hard time with this photo.

On this necklace I used some different prayer beads. Again they are over 100 years old.

vacation...........the ahhhhhh sooth your soul time!

Well I think I am finally recovering from a wonderful beach vacation. Our trip was just my hubby and me. That was a first for quite a while. We were a 10 minute walk from Dolphin Discovery. Those little guys just made you smile. Each and every time!!!! The time flies with each sunrise and sunset. We were beach bums deluxe! We got up, ate breakfast off to the fishes and reading and chilling and snoozing! We met lots of fun folks from all over the world.

I was given this cabinet by a dear friend. It , of course, needed help. I wish I had taken before pictures..........oh well. It was a real shiny turquoise. I like turquoise BUT not shiny and not on such a big piece. The hardware is original. The one side was missing. Another great save from my husband. It is great because as you can see................................it holds alot of goodies. I did not show the bottom..................another full spot too. The old bread box was my grandmothers. The "fresh" letters I found a junk shop. I was happy they spelled something! I painted in inside of the doors with a flower viney look. I love how it turned out. Hope all of you do too.

Good junk finding day!

This was one of my favorite finds. I loved the homemade caddy. The coffee cans, the fabulous handle and the color. A perfect piece. The possibilities are endless. I can see flowers, silverware, paint brushes, desk top organizer.

Today I went to an estate sale. Husband went too. He wanted to protect his pocketbook I think!

The house was going into demolition mode soon. Boy I could see why. The house had been flooded 3 times...............sad. There was (I thought) some really good junk!

This is the table/head board I rescued from the trash. It works great with the lip. The beads can not escape. The table cover is a shower curtain. Another rescue!

The "v" shape metal thing holds strands of beads just waiting for a creative use.

The church is one of my favorite pieces. This is my window with my "very creative window treatment". I used the back of a scrap of linoleum. I just use house paint for a base coat then start painting.

Well today is Friday. Here in Texas it might be slim pickins 'cause of the heat. I will be taking my youngest grandson to his school. I will be on the look out for goodies. Today was the bottle find day! I love old bottles and canning jars and cloches. It was fun finding glitter to add some bling. The picture frame was another fun find.

These are some of my vintage necklaces. This is so much fun! I just keep hanging more on my homemade, reinvented mannequin my husband did for me!

The middle necklace was my "ode to paris". The small necklace is my 2nd bird nest. The long one is the very first necklace I made. (Kinda special).

As America's birthday is winding down. I reflected on what a wonderful family day we had. This was a low key year for us. No big pool splashes, no crying babies just good ole American family time . Lots of food, lots of laughter and a small nap time (yea!)
